Dear SCA Members,
We hope you have had a safe, healthy, and relaxing summer break. We’re very excited to welcome you all back to kick off the new Fencing Season at SCA.
There’s a lot of news to share!
Training Schedules are back to normal
We’re back to our normal training schedules at both FOS and the Apollohal. You’ll find those schedules here.
Saskia and Daniël at the Olympics
This summer, SCA fencer Saskia van Erven participated for Colombia at the Olympics, in Women’s Foil! Trainer Daniël joined her as coach and is looking back:
“This summer, I went to Japan together with Saskia, where I supported her during her third Olympics. In the bubble in Tokyo the women’s foil tournament took place on 25 July. Saskia had a bye for the first round and was directly qualified for the last 32. In this round, she had to fence against the number 7 on the world ranking, the Russian Zagidullina. After a good fight, the match was lost by 8-15. It was great that Saskia got to fence at the Olympics again, and a great experience for me as a coach!”
NK and NJK
On 18 and 19 September, the Dutch youth championships (NJK) will take place in Alkmaar. SCA is again hoping to participate with a lot of youth fencers! Registration is possible until 13 September via the Nahouw or in the fencing hall at SCA.
The week afterwards, on 25 and 26 September, the Dutch championships for seniors (NK) will take place in Ede. Also for this tournament registration is possible via the Nahouw or in the fencing hall. Registration for this one closes on September 20!
Lockers
There are several lockers available for rent at the FOS fencing hall. Masks and fencing weapons can be stored in the lockers, so you don’t have to bring these every training. A locker can be rented for EUR 60 per year. For the remainder of 2021 (4 months) it only costs EUR 20! If you are interested in renting a locker, you can send an email to leden@schermcentrumamsterdam.nl.
Socks
Need new fencing socks to wear at the upcoming NK’s? We still have a few sets left! Ask the trainers for more information.
Confidential Advisor
The Council of Amsterdam requires all registered clubs to have a Confidential Advisor (VCP). The VCP is a trusted individual who can provide confidential consultation in the event that you experience, or observe, any undesirable behavior at our club. This could include bullying, intimidation, harassment, or discrimination. SchermCentrum Amsterdam’s VCP is Frans Schaasfma, father to a SCA fencer and a member of Talent Parent Committee of the Dutch Fencing Organizational Community (KNAS) for over 10 years. Frans is a full-time business coach and passionate about contributing to a safe and heathy environment for athletes of all ages.
