Tournament Results, Fencing on Saturdays, and More!

Dear members,

In this newsletter we are sharing news about more possibilities to fence and nice results by SCA fencers! In addition, SCA has two new confidants and we hope to see many members at the borrel on 9 March!

Fencing on Saturday
As announced, starting next Saturday there will be more possibilities to fence for all SCA members. On 11 March, the first Saturday training of SCA will take place at the Frans Otten Stadion. The training will be from 10:00 to 12:00 and is open to all weapons and ages. We hope to see many fencers for a refreshing morning training!

Fencing on Saturday will firstly be possible every two weeks. If it turns out to be successful, we will look at further expanding the possibilities.

Parent-kids fencing
Returning to SCA, on 25 March (10:00-12:00) we will organize parent-kids fencing again! Are you a parent/caregiver of a youth fencer and would like to try fencing?  Or are you curious whether you can beat you parents in fencing? Then join this session!  Afterwards, SCA is offering all participants a cup of coffee, tea or a soda.

Confidant
Since not too long, SCA has two new confidants, and these are Christien Muusse and Resham Newalsing. Resham and Christien are taking over from Frans Schaafsma, whom we are very grateful for all his contribution to the club! Suhayl African champion!
During the African youth championships in February in Accra (Ghana), Suhayl Nawar became junior African champion! And he even won two African titles, individually and in the team event. In the final of the individual competition, he won with 15-11 against his fellow team member Tolba. Suhayl has been fencing at SCA since he was young and he fences for Egypt. Congrats Suhayl and trainers Daniël and Matthijs!

Youth European championships in Tallinn
In February, the youth European championships also took place in Tallinn (Estonia) and two SCA youth fencers participated. Cedric van den Berg and Fabian Koster became respectively 58th and 66th in the cadets’ foil event. In the team competition they got a nice 9th place. The team was completed with Michael Dijkstra from Treville and Jonas Moerbeek from HollandSchermen. Leopold Kuchta got a good 27th place in the juniors’ foil event. Leopold has been training at SCA for several months and fences for Slovakia.

Results NK veterans 
During the Dutch championships for veterans on 18 and 19 February, SCA again participated with a lot of fencers and with good results, several titles and many medals! Trainer Matthijs became Dutch champion in men’s foil 40-49, Peter Sorber in men’s foil 50-59 and Anton Oskamp in men’s sabre 50-59. Congrats to all! The complete results can be found here.

Second hand fencing equipment
We would like to draw attention to a new Facebook group dedicated to buying and selling second hand fencing equipment (clothes and weapons). If you have any equipment you would like to sell, this is one place where you can advertise and talk to potential buyers via direct messages! Important to note is that SCA is not responsible for this platform, payment, quality or any issues.

Borrel 9 March
On Thursday 9 March, there will be a borrel after training to celebrate trainer Daniël’s birthday! Everyone is welcome at the FOS restaurant starting at 22:00 and the first drink is on SCA. Be there!
