Autumn Newsletter Update

Dear members,

In this first newsletter since the summer, we are looking forward to the SISTA SFZ tournament and the Veterans World Championships. Furthermore, we are reflecting on the current (financially) uncertain times and what this means for SCA.

Watching top fencers at the biggest tournament in the country
The SISTA SFZ tournament will take place on 15 and 16 October in the Emergohal in Amstelveen. For mens’ foil, this will be a satellite world cup, meaning that our Daniël Giacon and multiple global top fencers will participate! In addition, competitions will take place on womens’ foil and sabre, mens’ sabre, and pupils foil and sabre.Lieffertz Fechtsport will be present to sell fencing equipment. So be there to see top fencers in action or to buy new equipment! If you would like to help out before (Friday 22:30) or after (Sunday 16:00) the competition, you can let trainer Daniël know.

Veterans World Championships Zadar
From 24 to 30 October, the Veterans World Championships will take place in Zadar (Croatia). The SCA fencers Anton, Rick and Nico will be there to defend the Dutch honor. We wish them good luck!

Apollohal closed during the autumn break
On Wednesday 19 October, there will be no training at the Apollohal due to the autumn break.

Uncertain times
The SCA board took note of the high inflation and strongly increased energy prices. These uncertain times will have financial consequences for both SCA members and the club itself. The SCA board is actively looking at this and aims to keep fencing affordable and the club healthy. If you have difficulties paying contribution in these difficult times, then you can contact us. The board is happy to think with you about possibilities.
